Checkout Field format issue on Checkout page

When I add a field to my Checkout page, it isn't placed within the column of the theme (Woo's Storefront theme). This causes the field to span the entire width of the page, rather than being in the 50% column. This also means the 2nd 50% column, which should be flush with the first, is dropped below the field.

I'm trying to add custom hooks, but can't figure out the format.

Attached is a screenshot of the problem. Custom field area has red background. The Order details column should start at the top of the page, not below the custom field.
